St. Petersburg is turning into Russia’s automobile construction centre. Two car-making factories at a time are due to be opened there later today.
The first one is that of South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Company. The plant will turn out as of next year a C-class sedan that’s been expressly designed for Russia. The plant will prove the first full-cycle foreign car-making production facility in Russia and the fourth one in St. Petersburg, which has already played host to production facilities of the Toyota Motor Corporation, the General Motors Corporation and the Nissan Motor Company.
But the Magna Canadian Company, a leading global supplier of technologically advanced automotive components, systems and modules, is also due to launch its production line in St. Petersburg later today. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will attend a ceremony to unveil two car-making plants in St. Pete this Tuesday. He will also chair a conference on the development of the car-manufacturing industry in Russia.
